The Mounds Park Sanitarium School of Nursing opened its doors in 1907 with the mission: “The training of intelligent Christian nurses, who will be capable of going out into the world and administering to the physical and spiritual welfare of suffering humanity.” This Cap of White tells the story of the education of those “intelligent Christian nurses” and their continuing impact on the world.
The book traces the history of an important institution that trained nurses and helped to provide medical care in Saint Paul, Minnesota, for more than seventy years. It also shares the experiences of the students who entered its doors between 1907 and 1983, with more than two hundred graduates contributing stories or reminiscences for the book. The text is richly illustrated with photographs from the collections of the Mounds-Midway Museum, Bethel University archives, and from personal collections and scrapbooks.
This history also looks at Mounds-Midway’s continuing impact. The school graduated more than 2,000 nurses, leaving an outstanding record of service in hospitals, clinics, and schools across America, on the mission field, and in the military. Even today, its Alumni Association actively promotes missions work, continuing education, and the preservation of its heritage.
This hardbound book goes on sale on May 3, 2007 at a cost of $24.95. For information about ordering, contact the Mounds-Midway Alumni Association, HealthEast Midway Campus, 1700 University Avenue, Saint Paul, MN 55104.
