Report from Frederick Maryland
Dr. Lewis Steiner

Inspector Dr. Lewis Steiner was traveling through Frederick, Maryland in September 1862. When Confederate troops took the town, Steiner received a behind-the-lines look at the Rebel army just before the battle of Antietam. He wrote an insightful, and highly opinionated, diary, published in late 1862.
